A 20-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for carjacking with a sawed-off shotgun. David Jones appeared in court before U.S. District Judge Ronnie White on [no date specified],1 receiving the lengthy sentence.
According to court documents, Jones and two other individuals approached a 2008 Malibu in the 1300 block of Ferguson on May 22, 2018. The victims, who were sitting in the car with a friend, were told to get out at gunpoint. Jones and his accomplices pointed a short-barreled shotgun and handgun at the victims, who complied. The trio then jumped into the car and sped off.
An hour after the carjacking, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers spotted the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was being driven recklessly and erratically before spinning out of control. Jones exited the driver's seat, while the other two individuals fled on foot. Jones discarded a loaded sawed-off shotgun as he fled.
A foot chase ensued, during which Jones was taken into custody after a struggle with police officers. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case.
