Clay County Man Sentenced to 6+ Years for Meth Trafficking

A 35-year-old Clay County man has been sentenced to over six years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

David Lee Rucker, 35, of Clay County, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Maria M. Howard to 6 years and 8 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The court also ordered Rucker to forfeit a firearm and ammunition.

According to court documents, on July 1, 2021, Rucker went to a hotel in Clay County and obtained a large quantity of methamphetamine. Later that day, before he could sell the narcotics, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) pulled over a car Rucker was driving.

During a subsequent search of the car and pat down of Rucker, the CCSO located multiple baggies of methamphetamine and a loaded Taurus .40 caliber pistol. Rucker had pleaded guilty on May 19, 2022.

This case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Jacksonville Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein, with the forfeiture handled by Assistant United States Attorney Mai Tran.

Rucker’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of involvement in drug trafficking operations.
