South Bend Man Arrested for Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon

David Perry, a 55-year-old resident of South Bend, Indiana, has been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to investigators, Perry’s arrest was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Perry pleaded guilty to the felony offense and is set to be sentenced on July 30, 2014. If convicted, Perry faces a range of penalties, including imprisonment and fines.

The case against Perry is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.

A second defendant, Demarcus Bowling, also a resident of South Bend, Indiana, has pleaded guilty to the same felony offense. Bowling, 21, is set to be sentenced on July 30, 2014, alongside Perry.

The investigation into Perry’s arrest was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case against Bowling was also the result of an investigation by the ATF.

Separately, Christopher Simmons, a 43-year-old resident of Goshen, Indiana, has been sentenced to one year on probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine for taking, killing, or possessing migratory birds. Simmons pleaded guilty to the felony offense and was sentenced by United States Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein.

Silvino Alonso-Pineda, a 37-year-old resident of South Bend, Indiana, has been sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release for re-entering the United States after being deported and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. Alonso-Pineda pleaded guilty to the two felony offenses and was sentenced by District Judge Robert Miller, Jr.

Adam Shetler, a 33-year-old resident of Goshen, Indiana, has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation and ordered to pay $32,689.50 in restitution for theft of government property. Shetler pleaded guilty to the felony offense and was sentenced by District Judge Jon DeGuilio.
