Akron Man Arrested for Child Pornography

David T. Beiter, 54, of Akron, Ohio, has been charged with several crimes related to child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach.

The indictment charges Beiter with receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, as well as transferring obscene material to a juvenile and enticement.

Between February 9, 2015, and March 19, 2015, Beiter allegedly used a device connected to the Internet to attempt to persuade a 12-year-old girl to engage in illegal sexual activity with him. He also allegedly used the Internet to transfer obscene matter to the same minor.

The indictment also charges Beiter with receiving and distributing numerous computer files containing visual depictions of real minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between February 1, 2014, and March 20, 2015. On March 20, 2015, Beiter allegedly possessed a computer containing child pornography.

If convicted, Beiter's sentence will be determined by the court after considering federal sentencing guidelines, including his prior criminal record, role in the offense, and unique characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Sullivan, with the investigation led by the Akron, Ohio, and Richmond, Virginia, Offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Middlesex County (Virginia) Sheriff's Office.
