David Taylor, 53, Charged with Human Trafficking in Michigan

DETROIT, June 2, 2024 - A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Michigan has returned a ten-count indictment against David Taylor, a 53-year-old man from North Carolina, for his alleged role in a forced labor and money laundering conspiracy that victimized individuals in Michigan, Florida, Texas, and Missouri.

According to the indictment, Taylor is the leader of the Kingdom of God Global Church (KOGGC), formerly Joshua Media Ministries International (JMMI), a call center that solicited donations for KOGGC/JMMI every day. Taylor compelled his victims to work at the call centers and to work for him as his personal servants, known as 'armor bearers.'

Taylor and his co-defendant, Michelle Brannon, allegedly controlled every aspect of the daily living of their victims, including their sleep arrangements, travel, and medical care. The indictment also alleges that Taylor and Brannon required their victims to solicit tens of millions of dollars in donations for KOGGC/JMMI.

The indictment charges Taylor with one count of conspiracy to commit forced labor, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, six counts of forced labor, and two counts of money laundering.

Taylor was arrested today in North Carolina in a nationwide takedown of his forced labor organization. He is currently being held without bail.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division stated, 'Combating human trafficking is a top priority for the Department of Justice. We are committed to relentlessly pursuing and ending this scourge and obtaining justice for the victims.'

The case is being investigated by the FBI, the IRS-CI, and local, county, and state law enforcement partners. Taylor's trial is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2024.
