Deaviea Brown, Possession of Ammunition, Nebraska 2019

A Lincoln man has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for possession of ammunition, according to the United States Attorney's office.

Deaviea Brown, 19, pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition on November 13, 2019. The charge precludes him from possessing ammunition or firearms due to a prior felony conviction.

Brown was convicted of attempted possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver on January 22, 2019, in the District Court of Lancaster County, Nebraska.

The investigation into Brown's case began as part of a larger probe into the local street gang known as the 'Day One Brothers' or 'D1B' by the Lincoln Police Department's Gang Unit and the FBI.

Police executed a search warrant at a gang member's residence on June 14, 2019, and recovered a silver and black Taurus Model G2C 9mm handgun, along with other evidence. The search also seized and searched the gang member's cellular phone, which contained numerous pictures of gang members, including Brown, in possession of firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also provided assistance in the case.

The Honorable Richard G. Kopf, Senior United States District Court Judge, presided over the case.

The sentencing follows a string of investigations into local gangs and their associates. The Lincoln Police Department and the FBI continue to work together to combat gang activity in the area.

Brown will serve 30 months imprisonment, followed by two years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
