Dejohntae Zeche Keith Williams, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Indiana 2021

A California truck driver has been sentenced to 8 years in federal prison after transporting 72 kilograms of methamphetamine into Indiana, according to federal authorities.

Dejohntae Zeche Keith Williams, 30, of California, was sentenced on May 7, 2021 in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Williams was stopped by an Indiana State Police Trooper on May 7, 2021, for driving a semi-truck over the speed limit on I-65. During a search of the truck, two large, black duffel bags were found on the top bunk of the sleeper berth, containing 162 individually wrapped plastic packages of methamphetamine, weighing approximately 72 kilograms.

Williams admitted to delivering the drugs to Louisville, Kentucky, in exchange for $30,000 during an interview with Homeland Security Investigations Agents.

“The Crossroads of America remains an attractive target for the drug traffickers who seek illegal profits with utter disregard for the individuals and families harmed by abuse of dangerous substances,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

Williams was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison and will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for 3 years following his release. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, with valuable assistance provided by Indiana State Police.
