Demario Kentrell Booker, Possession of a .40-caliber Pistol, Minnesota 2012

A Minneapolis man, Demario Kentrell Booker, 36, has been found guilty of possessing a .40-caliber pistol in a federal court case.

According to the evidence presented at trial, on November 20, 2012, Booker, who is a known drug user and a felon, was in possession of the firearm. A high-speed chase ensued after Booker refused to pull over for law enforcement, and the gun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Booker's prior convictions include assault in the third degree (2004), assault in the fourth degree (2008), and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm (2009). As a felon, he is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm or ammunition at any time.

The case was the result of an investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Newberry through Project Exile Minneapolis, a city-wide effort to reduce gun violence.

Booker faces a potential maximum penalty of ten years in federal prison. United States District Court Judge John R. Tunheim will determine his sentence at a future hearing, yet to be scheduled.
