Dennis Wally Woodbury, Abusive Sexual Contact, California 2024
LOS ANGELES — A former California Highway Patrol captain has been charged with a federal crime after allegedly slapping a flight attendant's buttocks on a flight from Florida to LAX.
Dennis Wally Woodbury, 49, of Azusa, is accused of committing abusive sexual contact on a JetBlue Airways flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on April 13, 2024.
According to court documents, Woodbury engaged in inappropriate conduct with two male flight attendants before the flight took off. He showed one of the attendants a photograph of a dog with pornographic imagery in the background and made a crude hand gesture.
Later during the flight, Woodbury allegedly slapped one of the flight attendants' buttocks and yelled that he loved him. He also exposed his genitalia to the first flight attendant, who told him to stop.
Woodbury, who was drinking heavily, was initially released on $50,000 bond after his initial court appearance. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 12, 2024 in United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles.
The FBI and the Los Angeles Airport Police are investigating the matter. Woodbury faces a maximum sentence of two years in federal prison if convicted.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and Woodbury is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
