Deon Dewayne Grundy, Fentanyl Possession with Intent to Distribute, West Virginia 2026

In a shocking turn of events, Deon Dewayne Grundy, 29, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. The crime took place in Beckley, West Virginia, on September 3, 2025.

According to court documents, on September 3, 2025, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a Beckley residence where Grundy was living and seized 86 grams of fentanyl. Grundy admitted that he intended to distribute the seized fentanyl in and around the Southern District of West Virginia. Furthermore, he confessed to selling approximately 5 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant at the Beckley residence in exchange for $300 earlier that day.

Grundy is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11, 2026, and faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison, at least four years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $5 million. This severe punishment is a testament to the gravity of Grundy's crimes.

The investigation was led by the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, which consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, and the Beckley Police Department. United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the team's diligent work in bringing Grundy to justice.

Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons is prosecuting the case. United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn presided over the hearing.
