Dutchess County Sex Offender Sentenced to 15 Years for Enticing Minor
A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for enticing a 15-year-old girl in Dutchess County, New York.
Derek Hasselbrink, a/k/a 'Derek Spear,' 49, of Quincy, Illinois, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Román for enticing a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
According to prosecutors, from at least April 2023 up to July 2, 2023, Hasselbrink engaged in sexually explicit message conversations with a 15-year-old girl and traveled to meet her near her home in Dutchess County, New York, to engage in sexual activity.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton praised the efforts of the FBI, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and other agencies in connection with this investigation. 'Sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime,' Clayton said. 'New Yorkers want sexual predators who target minors arrested promptly, prosecuted rigorously, and sentenced in line with the horrific nature of their crimes.'
In addition to the prison term, Hasselbrink was sentenced to 15 years of supervised release. The case is being handled by the Office's White Plains Division, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kingdar Prussien in charge of the prosecution.
