Kyle Man Caught in Massive Methamphetamine Distribution Ring
A 25-year-old man from Kyle, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Derek Tyon, a resident of Kyle, was found guilty of conspiring to distribute a controlled substance.
According to court documents, Tyon sold methamphetamine primarily on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He coordinated with several other individuals over several years to obtain and distribute multiple pounds of methamphetamine.
The case against Tyon was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Badlands Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gina Nelson prosecuted the case.
Tyon was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 20, 2018, for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. He pled guilty to that charge on February 15, 2019.
As part of his sentence, Tyon was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The sentencing was carried out by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court. United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced the sentencing, highlighting the severity of the crime and the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
Tyon's case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine distribution and the devastating impact it has on communities across the country.
