A brazen bank robbery in the heart of New Orleans has led to a guilty plea. Derrick Morgan, 37, of New Orleans, pleaded guilty to bank robbery and use of a dangerous weapon in commission of same.

On September 3, 2014, Morgan, dressed as a female, robbed the Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank located on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans by force, violence, and intimidation. Deposits made at Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

The crime was charged in a one-count Indictment on September 12, 2014. Morgan faces a maximum of 25 years imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.

Morgan's sentencing is set for May 14, 2015, before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael E. McMahon is in charge of the prosecution.

Morgan's brazen crime shocked the community, and his guilty plea brings a sense of relief to those affected.
