Destiny Moore, Stealing Firearms, West Virginia 2020

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - In a disturbing case of firearm theft, two Jackson County women have pled guilty to stealing firearms from a licensed firearms dealer.

According to the United States Attorney Mike Stuart, Destiny Moore, 19, and Rebecca Sellers, 18, of Ravenswood, pled guilty to stealing firearms from the Old and New Sports store located in Ravenswood. The women were arrested and charged with the crime, which is a serious federal offense.

Moore and Sellers admitted that on April 7, 2019, they stole approximately 24 firearms from the store, along with James Evans and a juvenile. Moore drove Sellers' vehicle during the robbery while Evans and the juvenile broke into the store. Police have recovered most of the stolen firearms.

Moore and Sellers face up to 10 years in prison when sentenced on April 22, 2020. Evans is scheduled to be sentenced on April 15, 2020.

The Ravenswood Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) conducted the investigation. United States District Judge Irene C. Berger presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handled the prosecution.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime in communities. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems and develop comprehensive solutions.
