Devin Chaney, Bank Robbery, Louisiana 2021

NEW ORLEANS – Devin Chaney, a 32-year-old New Orleans man, has been charged with bank robbery and using a firearm during the crime, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

According to the indictment, Chaney robbed the Capital One Bank located in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 24, 2021, using a firearm during the robbery.

If convicted of armed bank robbery, Chaney faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 years, a fine of up to $250,000.00, up to five years supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

If convicted of brandishing a firearm during the bank robbery, Chaney faces a mandatory consecutive minimum sentence of seven years up to a maximum of life imprisonment, up to a $250,000.00 fine, up to 5 years supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the U.S. Attorney's violent crime reduction efforts.

The PSN program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crimes Task Force and New Orleans Police Department in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorney Julia K. Evans is in charge of the prosecution.

U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
