DeWayne Allen McGill, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Georgia 2025
Rome, GA - DeWayne Allen McGill, a convicted felon and methamphetamine dealer, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
McGill, 40, of Calhoun, Georgia, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William M. Ray II to 11 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.
According to U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, McGill sold approximately 56 grams of methamphetamine from his apartment in Calhoun on March 10, 2023. He was later stopped by agents on April 6, 2023, in the Atlanta metro area, where they found over 300 grams of pure methamphetamine in his vehicle.
McGill tried to run from officers and resisted arrest, biting a DEA special agent and a Calhoun Police detective in the process. Agents later executed a search warrant on McGill's apartment, where they found additional methamphetamine and a loaded 9mm handgun.
As a twice-convicted felon, McGill was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was convicted of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, assaulting a federal officer, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon on March 3, 2025, after he pleaded guilty.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with valuable assistance provided by the Calhoun Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Forsyth, III, prosecuted the case.
