Dino Rotondo Pleads Guilty to Employment Tax Fraud in Michigan

A West Bloomfield resident has been caught in a web of deceit, as local businessman Dino Rotondo pleaded guilty to willfully failing to pay over employment taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This shocking case of tax evasion has left many wondering how such a brazen crime could go unchecked for so long.

According to court documents, Rotondo owned and operated four professional employer organizations (PEOs) in Troy, Michigan. These PEOs provided payroll-related services to client companies, processing paychecks and withholding employment taxes. However, despite his obligation to do so, Rotondo failed to pay the IRS the employment taxes he collected from 2012 and the first quarter of 2013.

The total amount of unremitted employment taxes is a staggering $1.5 million, a figure that highlights the scope of Rotondo's deceit. In addition to his PEOs, Rotondo also failed to pay employment taxes for an additional business he owned.

U.S. District Judge Bernard A. Friedman has scheduled sentencing for January 18, 2019. Rotondo faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, as well as a period of supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties.

The investigation into Rotondo's crimes was conducted by special agents of the IRS Criminal Investigation division. Tax Division Trial Attorneys Abigail Burger Chingos and Jeffrey Bender are prosecuting the case.

In a statement, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman thanked the agents and prosecutors involved in the case. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of tax compliance and the severe consequences of failing to do so.
