Published January 10, 2025

NORFOLK, Va. - A Suffolk man was behind bars after a federal sentencing hearing that could keep him locked up for a decade.

Dobeir Quam Rudolph, 35, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On September 15, 2023, law enforcement intercepted a package containing two pounds of crystal meth that had been shipped from Murrieta, California, to Norfolk through the U.S. Postal Service.

Investigators removed all but 33 grams of the meth, repackaged the parcel, and conducted a controlled delivery to the intended address.

After the package was delivered, Rudolph arrived at the address and retrieved the package. An arrest team attempted to detain Rudolph, but he resisted and attempted to flee in his vehicle. Officers observed Rudolph reaching for something and attempting to destroy his cellphone.

Rudolph was eventually placed into custody after a search of the vehicle recovered a handgun where he had been reaching.

As a previously convicted felon, Rudolph cannot legally possess a firearm or ammunition.

According to court documents, Rudolph has two prior felony convictions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin M. Comstock and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc W. West, an Assistant Attorney General with the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, prosecuted the case.

U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen handed down the sentence.

Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge for the DEA’s Washington Division; Jason S. Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia; and Mark Talbot, Chief of Norfolk Police, made the announcement after sentencing.
