Published October 18, 2022

Dominic Taddeo, Jr., a former New York mob hitman, has been sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for his escape from an Orlando half-way house in Florida. The 65-year-old was ordered to serve the time consecutively to his remaining term of imprisonment on other federal convictions. Taddeo had pleaded guilty to the escape on May 17, 2022.

According to court documents, Taddeo was transferred from the Coleman Correctional Institution to a half-way house in Orlando on February 15, 2022, to complete his term of incarceration for federal convictions out of the Western District of New York. His projected release date from the half-way house was February 2023. However, on March 28, 2022, Taddeo was granted a community pass to leave the half-way house for a medical appointment, but he failed to return as required.

Taddeo was eventually arrested on April 4, 2022, while in possession of over $5,000 cash and a driver license of a deceased individual. The investigation into Taddeo's escape was conducted by the United States Marshals Service, the Florida Regional Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Prisons.

Assistant United States Attorney Kara M. Wick prosecuted the case against Taddeo. The U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton handed down the sentence in the case.

Taddeo's case highlights the importance of monitoring and tracking individuals who are on supervised release. His failure to return to the half-way house after being granted a community pass is a serious offense and has resulted in a significant sentence.

The investigation and prosecution of Taddeo's escape demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to holding individuals accountable for their actions. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating the terms of one's release from prison.

Taddeo is currently serving his 3-year sentence in federal prison, in addition to his remaining term of imprisonment on other federal convictions.
