Doron Guider, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, South Carolina 2025
A 27-year-old Columbia man has been sentenced to three years and two months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Columbia resident Doron Guider was sentenced on January 8, 2025, by United States District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie to 46 total months imprisonment. Guider will also serve a three-year term of court-ordered supervision after his release.
The conviction stems from an incident on January 9, 2025, when Columbia Police officers responded to a complaint about a man with a handgun at an extended stay hotel on Forest Drive. Officers reviewed surveillance video and found Guider hiding a handgun between two pallets in a nearby store. The firearm was recovered along with Guider's original clothing.
Glider's prior convictions include strong arm robbery, breaking into a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony. These convictions prohibit him from possessing a firearm under federal law.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the City of Columbia Police Department, and the Richland County Sheriff's Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lamar J. Fyall prosecuted the case.
The case highlights the risks faced by law enforcement when dealing with individuals who have prior convictions and are prohibited from possessing firearms. Guider's actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and put the community at risk.
