Douglas Lynn Greer, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Iowa 2024

A Texas man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for possessing firearms as a convicted felon.

Douglas Lynn Greer, 41, of Fort Worth, Texas, was sentenced to 40 months' imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The sentence stems from a March 26, 2024, guilty plea to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Greer admitted to possessing four firearms in his car when he was stopped for speeding in Clayton County, Iowa.

Greer had previously been convicted of the felony offenses of making terroristic threats and offering a forged check.

Greer must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Greer is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
