Rocky Mount, NC – In a major blow to drug traffickers in Eastern North Carolina, federal agents today arrested the alleged head of a notorious drug ring operating out of Rocky Mount. The United States Attorney’s Office has scheduled a press conference for September 3rd at the Rocky Mount Train Station to detail the successful operation and ongoing efforts to dismantle the criminal network.

The suspect, identified as Robert Johnson, 35, from Nash County, is believed to be responsible for distributing large quantities of illegal drugs in Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson Counties. The arrest follows a months-long investigation by federal agents and local law enforcement agencies.

During the press conference, United States Attorney Robert J. Higdon, Jr., will discuss the specifics of the case against Johnson, including charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute. The conference will also provide an update on the Take Back North Carolina initiative, which aims to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Joining Higdon at the press conference will be representatives from the Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as officials from the Wilson and Rocky Mount Police Departments. Agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration will also participate.
