Dustin Christopher Scott, Attempted Enticement of Minors, South Dakota 2017
A Hot Springs man was handed a harsh sentence for his attempt to lure minors into illegal sexual activity over the internet.
Dustin Christopher Scott, 33, of Rapid City, South Dakota, was convicted of Attempted Enticement of Minors Using the Internet. On June 13, 2017, Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken of the U.S. District Court handed down a 12-year prison term, followed by 15 years of supervised release, and ordered Scott to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from Scott's attempt to entice minor females to engage in illegal sexual activity using the internet.
This case was investigated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.
Scott was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The charges were brought against Scott on August 23, 2016, and he pleaded guilty on March 10, 2017.
Scott, a Hot Springs man, will spend the next 12 years behind bars for his crimes. He will also serve 15 years of supervised release after his prison term. The total amount of the special assessment is $100.
