Dvir Derhy, Bribery, Florida 2024
A shocking case of corruption has come to light in Miami, where a building owner has been charged with bribery in connection with fire code violations. According to federal authorities, Dvir Derhy, 46, of Miami, has been accused of giving cash payments to a city fire official in exchange for removing citations from the Flagler Building Downtown.
The Flagler Building Downtown, located at 223 East Flagler Street, was cited for violating the City of Miami fire code by blocking egress from the building. Derhy, who owned and managed the property, allegedly made the corrupt payments between July 18, 2014, and July 21, 2014, in a bid to influence the official’s actions.
The FBI Miami Area Corruption Task Force and the City of Miami Police Department Internal Affairs Section are credited with uncovering the scheme, which has led to Derhy’s arrest. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Harry C. Wallace, Jr.
Derhy faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted of the bribery charge. The case is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity in public life and the consequences of corruption.
The Flagler Building Downtown is leased office space and managed property in the heart of downtown Miami. The building’s owner and manager, Dvir Derhy, had a duty to ensure the property was compliant with city regulations, but instead, he allegedly chose to bribe a city official to avoid fines and penalties.
Wifredo A. Ferrer, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, commended the investigative efforts of the FBI and the City of Miami Police Department. The case is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to root out corruption and hold perpetrators accountable.
