Published October 25, 2019

Omaha, NE - A local man has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for a domestic assault conviction.

Dwight Morris, 37, was sentenced today in federal court in Omaha for Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender, according to United States Attorney Joe Kelly.

The Honorable Laurie Smith Camp handed down the sentence, which includes no parole in the federal prison system. Following his release from prison, Morris will serve a three-year term of supervised release.

The charges stem from an incident in August 2018, when the female victim reported to law enforcement that Morris had physically abused her over a period of days, including striking her face and body and choking her.

Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which led to Morris's conviction.

Morris has two previous convictions for crimes, which, if subject to federal jurisdiction, would constitute domestic assault.

The investigation revealed bruising on various parts of the victim's body consistent with her reports.
