Dwight Phillip Bivens, Hobbs Act Robbery, Arizona 2018

A brazen robbery spree shook the streets of Tucson, Scottsdale, and Glendale, Arizona, leaving a trail of shattered glass, terrified victims, and a staggering financial loss of over $130,000.

At the center of this crime wave was Dwight Phillip Bivens, 29, of Fresno, California, who pleaded guilty to two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery.

On May 28, 2016, Bivens and three other accomplices stormed a Tiffany & Co. jewelry store in Tucson, snatching a diamond solitaire ring and assaulting a security guard in the process.

Later that day, Bivens and his cohorts targeted a Nordstrom department store in Scottsdale, where they verbally threatened a store manager before making off with several designer handbags.

The final stop on their crime spree was a Helzberg Diamond Outlet store in Glendale, where Bivens and his crew pepper-sprayed store employees before stealing several high-end watches.

Bivens later pawned the watches in Fresno, California, but his luck ran out when the authorities caught up with him.

On [no date given], U.S. Chief District Judge Raner C. Collins sentenced Bivens to 63 months' imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Co-defendant Mitchell Ray Finley is still awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery. His sentencing is set for August 6, 2018.

The investigation into this case was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pima County Sheriff's Office, the Scottsdale Police Department, the Glendale Police Department, and the Fresno Police Department.
