Lincoln Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Meth and Gun Possession

A 26-year-old Lincoln man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.

Dylan M. Johnson, a resident of Lincoln, was sentenced on June 12, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln for one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard handed down the sentence, which includes no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, on May 1, 2023, investigators contacted Johnson at a hotel in Lincoln and found him in possession of multiple baggies containing suspected methamphetamine. Johnson dropped the baggies when approached by investigators and was subsequently arrested.

During a search of Johnson's hotel room, investigators found additional methamphetamine, as well as 5 grams of cocaine, empty baggies, a scale, approximately $550, and a heat sealer. A black Omni Hybrid AR-15 rifle and two magazines containing a total of 21 rounds were also discovered.

Johnson admitted to knowing he was a convicted felon and had purchased the firearm the day before his arrest to protect himself during drug transactions.

The methamphetamine seized from Johnson's person and hotel room weighed a total of 388 grams, with 370 grams being actual methamphetamine.

The case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol and the Lincoln Police Department.

Johnson will begin a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. The total sentence of 180 months' imprisonment will keep Johnson behind bars for the next 15 years.
