A brutal crime spree that left multiple victims in its wake has come to an end for Dylen Joseph Swan, 22, of Inchelium, Washington. United States District Court Judge Thomas O. Rice imposed a sentence of 168 months in federal custody to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Swan was sentenced for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in Indian Country and Robbery Affecting Commerce, and was ordered to pay $21,515.75 in restitution. The seriousness of Swan's crimes was noted by Judge Rice during the sentencing hearing.
The crime spree began on August 19, 2021, outside the Twelve Tribes Casino in Omak, Washington, where Swan shot Victim 1 in the stomach. The victim required two full bags of blood transfusions and multiple hours of surgery to repair his shredded intestines and bladder.
Over the next two days, Swan continued his rampage, shooting Victim 3 in the arm outside a McDonald's in downtown Spokane and robbing a Rosauers Supermarket, where he pointed a red pistol at the store manager's head. He also spray-painted his car to disguise it from law enforcement.
Swan's crime spree finally came to an end on August 21, 2021, when he crashed his vehicle into another car after a high-speed chase through downtown Spokane. The red pistol used in the shootings was later recovered by Spokane Police.
United States Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref praised the law enforcement team for their work in bringing Swan to justice. 'Today's sentence demonstrates the seriousness of Mr. Swan's actions and dangerousness he presented on the Colville Indian Reservation as well as in downtown Spokane.'
