Arson Suspect Arrested in Leominster, Massachusetts

A Princeton man is accused of intentionally setting a fire that destroyed a restaurant in Leominster last October. Edmond Charrette, 31, was indicted on one count of damage and destruction of a building by means of fire.

According to the indictment, on October 12, 2021, Charrette maliciously damaged and destroyed China City, a restaurant in Leominster, and its contents by means of fire. The charge of damage and destruction of a building by means of fire provides for a sentence of at least five years and up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Charrette will make an initial appearance in federal court in Worcester on January 27, 2022. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen M. Noto of Rollins’ Worcester Branch Office.

The details contained in the charging documents are allegations, and Charrette is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation into the fire that destroyed China City involved a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Leominster Interim Police Department.

United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, James Ferguson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Colonel Christopher Mason of the Massachusetts State Police, and Leominster Interim Police Chief Aaron Kennedy made the announcement today.
