Eduardo Bermudez Gomez, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, California 2020

A Napa Valley gang member was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after a dramatic chase through the streets of Napa, California. Eduardo Bermudez Gomez, 28, a twice-convicted felon, was accused of brandishing a firearm at innocent individuals while driving under the influence on February 1, 2020.

According to the criminal complaint, Gomez was driving recklessly and nearly crashed with another driver before brandishing his firearm at another vehicle containing two innocent victims. He then fled the scene, crashed his vehicle into several parked cars, and overturned it. Napa Valley Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Gomez fled, leading to a high-speed chase.

Officers eventually arrested Gomez and found a .25 caliber Beretta handgun on his person and a 9mm Ruger handgun at the scene. Two rounds of 9mm ammunition and 0.3 grams of cocaine were also recovered. Gomez is associated with the Sureños gang.

Gomez was arrested on September 17, 2020, and made his initial appearance in federal court in Oakland this morning. He is currently in federal custody and is scheduled to appear again on September 21, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alex G. Tse.

The charges contained in the criminal complaint are mere allegations, and Gomez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. He faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, a federal crime.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Napa District Attorney's Office, and the Napa Special Investigations Bureau. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ankur Shingal is prosecuting the case with the assistance of Alexa Leisure and Angelica Jao.
