Rogers Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Possession
Fayetteville, Arkansas – In a shocking turn of events, Edward Garcia, a 23-year-old resident of Rogers, Arkansas, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. Garcia was also ordered to pay a $2,400 fine.
The sentencing hearing took place in the United States District Court in Fayetteville, with the Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presiding over the case. According to court records, this is not Garcia’s first run-in with the law. On October 30, 2016, Springdale police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Garcia, who was subsequently arrested for an outstanding warrant.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a flashlight containing a plastic bag with 9.5 grams of actual methamphetamine inside the battery compartment. The drugs were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis and were confirmed to contain the illicit substance.
Garcia was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2016 and pleaded guilty in February 2017. Assistant United States Attorney David Harris prosecuted the case for the United States.
The investigation into Garcia’s activities was led by the Springdale Police Department. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
