California Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Role in Cross-Country Cocaine Conspiracy
A California man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute over five kilograms of cocaine from California to New Jersey.
Edwin Garcia Cambero, 26, of Riverside, California, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. He was sentenced to 120 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares in Newark federal court.
According to court documents, Garcia Cambero was involved in a conspiracy with Luis Michel Donascimento, 37, of Perris, California, and Humberto Ramos Cervantes, 34, of Los Angeles. The conspiracy involved transporting cocaine from California to New Jersey, with Garcia Cambero attempting to deliver approximately five kilograms of cocaine to undercover federal agents on December 12, 2017.
Garcia Cambero was originally charged by complaint on December 13, 2017. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
The investigation into the conspiracy was led by the FBI, with special agents from the FBI's Riverside, California, Resident Agency and the FBI's Newark Field Office playing key roles. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Sammi Malek serving as the lead prosecutor.
Garcia Cambero's defense counsel was Henry Klingeman, Esq., of Newark.
