Elijah Cudei Etsitty, Assault, New Mexico 2021
A Fruitland man has pleaded guilty to a serious assault that left a victim with head and facial injuries, as well as seizure activity.
Elijah Cudei Etsitty, 27, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, entered a guilty plea to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in a United States District Court in Albuquerque.
According to court records, on June 27, 2021, Etsitty assaulted Jane Doe, causing serious bodily injury.
At sentencing, Etsitty faces up to 10 years in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release.
The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Shiprock Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly Bell is prosecuting the case.
Etsitty, who remains on conditions of release pending sentencing, will appear in court to face the consequences of his actions.
The incident has left the community shaken, and the plea serves as a reminder of the severity of such crimes.
