55-pound Methamphetamine Seizure Lands Nebraska Man Behind Bars
On January 18, 2018, a Nebraska State Trooper stopped a black Ford Expedition, driven by Elmer Alexander Andrade, for a traffic violation in Hall County, Nebraska. The stop led to the recovery of approximately 55 pounds of methamphetamine from the vehicle. This massive seizure set off a chain of events that ultimately led to Andrade's conviction and sentencing in a federal court.
The investigation that followed the seizure was led by the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force. The task force executed a search warrant at an apartment in Hastings, Nebraska, where they recovered additional evidence, including narcotics packaging material, a scale, police scanners, ledgers, $17,820 in United States Currency, and an AR-15 firearm.
On February 27, 2023, United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Andrade to 175 months in prison, to be followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. Andrade was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. § 846.
