Eloy 'Chino' Alonzo, Methamphetamine Distribution and Firearms Violations, Tennessee 2018
Knoxville, Tennessee - A federal jury has delivered a guilty verdict against Eloy 'Chino' Alonzo, a 31-year-old resident of Sweetwater, Tennessee, for his involvement in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution operation in east Tennessee. The charges against Alonzo include conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.
Evidence presented in court revealed that Alonzo was an illegal alien from Mexico who had been bringing and selling pounds of methamphetamine into east Tennessee. A search warrant executed at Alonzo's residence in Monroe County, Tennessee, in September 2016, uncovered a large quantity of methamphetamine and multiple assault rifles.
The investigation into Alonzo's activities was a joint effort between several law enforcement agencies, including the Ninth Judicial Drug Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Sweetwater City Police Department, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, Blount County Sheriff's Department, and the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cynthia Davidson and LaToyia Carpenter represented the United States in the case against Alonzo. The prosecution team presented evidence that showed Alonzo's involvement in the methamphetamine distribution operation and his possession of firearms in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.
A sentencing hearing for Eloy 'Chino' Alonzo is scheduled for 2:00 pm on April 26, 2018, in U.S. District Court. The court will determine Alonzo's sentence for his convictions.
