Lumberton Man Convicted of Gun Possession

A federal jury in the Eastern District of North Carolina has convicted Emanuel Mann Billings, a Lumberton man and member of the street gang, Folk Nation, of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

According to court records and evidence presented at trial, on no specific date mentioned, Emanuel Mann Billings was stopped by a Lumberton Police officer for failing to stop at a stop sign in a red Nissan Rogue. The officer took Billings' identification and discovered that he was a convicted felon.

During the stop, the officer asked Billings if he possessed any illegal items in the vehicle. Billings admitted to possessing a firearm in the center console of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Billings had been in possession of the firearm for months, as shown in open-sourced social media.

Billings' criminal history includes convictions for multiple counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, and assault inflicting physical injury on a detention employee.

As a convicted felon, Billings faces a minimum penalty of 180 months in prison when he is sentenced in November of 2021.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Lumberton Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Chad Rhoades and John Harris.
