Havre Man Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison for Illegal Firearm Possession

GREAT FALLS, MT - In a shocking turn of events, Emil Martin Lundstrom, a 59-year-old Havre man, was sentenced to 48 months in prison for illegal possession of multiple firearms. The sentencing took place on an unspecified date.

Lundstrom pleaded guilty in May 2025 to the charge of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.

The government alleged that on October 10, 2017, Lundstrom was sentenced to 20 years with 5 years suspended on eight counts of felony theft in the Montana Seventeenth Judicial District Court, Phillips County. However, this did not deter Lundstrom from possessing firearms.

On September 6, 2024, law enforcement responded to a Havre business to remove Lundstrom from the property due to theft allegations. During the search, officers found a Ziploc bag containing several rounds of 9mm full metal jacket cartridges in Lundstrom's work pickup. A further search of his residence and a camper on his property revealed multiple firearms, including rifles and pistols.

Lundstrom admitted to law enforcement that he knew he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his probation status. He also stated that he acquired many of the firearms before being placed on probation in 2017, but purchased additional guns from individuals after being placed on probation.

The U.S. Attorney's Office prosecuted the case, with the investigation conducted by the ATF, Hill County Sheriff's Office, and Montana Probation and Parole. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

The sentencing marks a significant blow to Lundstrom, who will spend the next 4 years in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of possessing firearms illegally.
