Emmanuel Brent Sanders, Firearm Possession, North Carolina 2020

Raleigh, N.C. - A Raleigh Blood Gang member was sentenced to 66 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

Emmanuel Brent Sanders, 25, a member of the Blood Gang, was named in a one-count Indictment filed in the Eastern District of North Carolina on August 22, 2019. The Indictment charged Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

On January 7, 2020, Sanders pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

According to court documents, officers from the Raleigh Police Department Gang Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on March 21, 2019, due to a wanted subject being spotted inside the vehicle. Sanders was driving and was removed from the vehicle, along with the other occupants, after officers observed marijuana on the floorboards.

During a probable cause search, officers found a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol with an extended magazine and a round in the chamber underneath the driver's seat. The firearm was listed as stolen in NCIC.

Sanders was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Sanders to 66 months in prison following his guilty plea. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and the Raleigh Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel W. Smith prosecuted the case.
