Kingsport Man Convicted of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Faces Up to Life in Prison

A federal jury in Greeneville, Tennessee has convicted Eric Eugene Robinson, 55, of Kingsport, Tennessee, of being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of 18 U.S.C. §922(g)(3).

According to evidence presented during the two-day trial, Robinson was found to be in possession of a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine at his residence in Kingsport in early September 2020. The firearm was manufactured in Brazil and imported into Bainbridge, Georgia, before arriving in Tennessee.

Robinson, a convicted felon, faces a sentence of a minimum of 15 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to five years. Sentencing is set for July 22, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. before Judge J. Ronnie Greer in United States District Court in Greeneville, Tennessee.

The investigation was led by Kingsport Police Department officer Mike Slater, a former Task Force Officer assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the ATF also assisted in the investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney B. Todd Martin and Special Assistant United States Attorney AnCharlene Davis represented the United States at trial. United States Attorney Francis M. Hamilton, III of the Eastern District of Tennessee made the announcement.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement and community organizations to prevent violence and make neighborhoods safer.
