Armed Career Criminal Handed 15-Year Sentence in Michigan

DETROIT, Mich. - Eric T. Walker, a 46-year-old Detroit man, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his illegal possession of a firearm.

Walker's lengthy sentence marks the culmination of a federal case that stemmed from a Crime Stoppers complaint about Walker selling drugs from his home. The Detroit Police Department executed a search warrant at his residence, recovering a substantial amount of illicit substances, including 136 grams of cocaine, 23.5 grams of heroin laced with fentanyl, 672 grams of marijuana, 93 oxycodone pills, and 4.5 amphetamine pills.

A 9mm semiautomatic pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition was also recovered during the search. Walker was arrested at his home and subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Walker's prior felony convictions include murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and two drug trafficking offenses. His lengthy criminal history makes him an Armed Career Criminal, a designation that carries severe penalties.

U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison praised the citizens who reported Walker's activities to Crime Stoppers, stating, 'The citizens responsible for working to improve the quality of life in their neighborhood by reporting Walker's conduct to Crime Stoppers should be commended.'

Walker's case is a prime example of the federal government's commitment to removing violent offenders from the streets. As Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene noted, 'Mr. Walker continued his criminal activities despite being a convicted felon. While his lengthy sentence has removed a dangerous person from the neighborhood, it should also send a strong message to anyone who chooses to terrorize our communities with violence and illicit drugs.'

This case was investigated by the DEA and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Moran.
