Published July 18, 2019

A brazen daytime robbery at the Huntington Bank in New Brighton has resulted in a five-year prison sentence for the perpetrator.

On August 17, 2018, Ernest Dewayne Taylor, 50, of Beaver Falls, entered the bank located at 921 3rd Avenue, New Brighton, Pennsylvania and handed a teller a note claiming to be armed and demanding cash.

As a result of the robbery, Taylor obtained $600.00 in U.S. currency.

Assistant United States Attorney Robert C. Schupansky prosecuted this case on behalf of the government, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Brighton Area Police Department conducted the investigation.

Senior United States District Court Judge Joy Flowers Conti imposed the sentence on Taylor, who will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The robbery was a brazen act of violence that put the lives of bank employees and customers at risk. The sentence handed down by Judge Conti is a just outcome for the victim bank and the community.

The court's decision serves as a reminder that bank robbery will not be tolerated in our community, and those who commit such crimes will be held accountable.
