Ernesto Contreras, a 35-year-old man from Chicago, Illinois, was at the center of a high-profile federal case in 2018. Contreras was accused of being involved in a violent crime that left one person dead and another injured.
The case, known as USA vs. Ernesto Contreras, was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on September 20, 2018. Contreras was charged with one count of murder in aid of racketeering, one count of attempted murder in aid of racketeering, and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to court documents, Contreras was alleged to have been involved in a shooting that occurred on June 15, 2018, in the Chicago neighborhood of Englewood. The shooting resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man and the injury of a 25-year-old woman.
Contreras was taken into custody on June 16, 2018, and was subsequently charged with the aforementioned crimes. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Grady leading the prosecution.
