Jackson Man Caught with Firearm, Faces 10 Years in Prison
A Hinds County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Estvanico Mack, 35, of Jackson, Mississippi, was found with the firearm on April 25, 2018, while parked at a gas station on Northside Drive in Jackson.
Mack's guilty plea comes after he was previously convicted of felonious false pretense in Hinds County in 2010 and felonious vehicular burglary in 2008. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jackson Police Department worked together to investigate the case.
The case is part of Project EJECT, an initiative by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi under the U.S. Attorney-General’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). EJECT is a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to fighting and reducing violent crime through prosecution, prevention, re-entry, and awareness.
Mack will be sentenced by Judge Carlton W. Reeves on October 10, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew W. Eichner. The public is reminded that all individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Project EJECT aims to make Mississippi’s neighborhoods safer by working together with law enforcement and the community to reduce violent crime. The initiative was reinvigorated in 2017 by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.
