Ethan Rumery, Conspiring to Violate Federal Firearms Laws, Maine 2019
Pittsfield, Maine resident Ethan Rumery, 24, has been sentenced to two years in prison and three years of supervised release for conspiring to violate federal firearms laws.
U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Torresen handed down the sentence to Rumery on February 25, 2019 in U.S. District Court.
According to court records, between February 2015 and September 2016, Rumery conspired with others to fraudulently obtain firearms from federally licensed dealers in Maine.
Rumery and his coconspirators falsely claimed that they were the actual purchasers of the firearms, when in fact they were purchased for and sold to individuals residing outside of Maine.
The case was investigated by the Massachusetts State Police, the Newport and Pittsfield (Maine) Police Departments, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Prosecutors successfully prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program designed to reduce violent crime and identify pressing issues within communities.
Rumery pled guilty to conspiring to violate federal firearms laws on February 25, 2019.
