Eugene W. Williams, Fentanyl Distribution, West Virginia 2022
A Detroit man, Eugene W. Williams, also known as 'Bo,' has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl in West Virginia. Williams, 45, admitted to selling a quantity of fentanyl to a confidential informant on March 4, 2021, and another quantity on March 11, 2021, near Mount Hope in Raleigh County.
Williams faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison as well as at least three years of supervised release and a $1 million fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15, 2022.
According to court documents, Williams sold fentanyl to a confidential informant on two separate occasions in 2021. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit.
The Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and the Beckley Police Department. United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the agencies involved in the investigation.
A United States District Judge presided over the hearing, and Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess is prosecuting the case. The case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Williams' plea agreement is a significant victory for law enforcement agencies in the region. The distribution of fentanyl is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities.
