Evan Sheffield, Heroin and Fentanyl Trafficking, Connecticut 2021

A notorious Bridgeport drug trafficker has been sentenced to over 8 years in federal prison for his role in distributing heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine in the city.

Evan Sheffield, 34, also known as 'Smooth,' was sentenced to 97 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for his crimes.

The sentencing comes after a lengthy investigation by the FBI's Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department, which revealed that Sheffield and his associates were using his Bridgeport residence to store, process, and package narcotics for street sale.

According to court documents, the investigation, which began in the summer of 2017, included the use of court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of narcotics, physical and video surveillance, and the execution of multiple search and seizure warrants.

Sheffield was arrested on November 6, 2018, and later pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, 100 grams or more of heroin and a quantity of cocaine base ('crack').

Sheffield, who was released on a $100,000 bond, is required to report to prison on January 5, 2021.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karen L. Peck and Patrick J. Doherty.
