Attempt to Support Terrorist Organization Lands Modesto Man in Court

A 26-year-old Modesto man has found himself on the wrong side of the law after attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. Everitt Aaron Jameson, a resident of Modesto, California, pleaded guilty to the charges on an unspecified date.

The charges against Jameson stem from his interactions with a confidential source and an undercover agent, during which he expressed his support for the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). He also discussed his desire to carry out violent acts and provide financial support to the organization.

According to court documents, Jameson's support for ISIS dated back to September 2017, when he began voicing his opinions online. He expressed admiration for the organization's terrorist activities and even discussed targeting Pier 39 in San Francisco, a crowded area that he believed would be an ideal location for an attack.

Jameson's past military experience, which included basic training and a sharpshooter rifle qualification, was also brought up during his interactions with the undercover agent. He boasted about his combat skills and expressed his willingness to use explosives in an attack.

The investigation into Jameson's activities was led by the FBI, and he is currently facing a sentence of 15 years in prison and a life term of supervised release. His sentencing is scheduled for September 4.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dawrence W. Rice Jr. and Christopher D. Baker of the Eastern District of California, and Trial Attorney Brenda Sue Thornton of the National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section are in charge of the prosecution.
