Fabian Lopez Mejia, Illegal Reentry, Massachusetts 2024
BOSTON – In a stunning move, Fabian Lopez Mejia, a 31-year-old Colombian man, pleaded guilty yesterday to illegally reentering the United States after deportation.
According to the indictment, Lopez Mejia was previously removed from the United States in November 2019. However, he managed to return to the country sometime after his removal.
Lopez Mejia was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2024 and is facing one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper has scheduled sentencing for October 22, 2024.
In October 2023, Lopez Mejia pled guilty in Suffolk Superior Court to one count of possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance and one count of forgery/misuse of an RMV document.
The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien provides for a sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The investigation into Lopez Mejia's activities was led by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Reynolds III of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
Lopez Mejia's actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for U.S. immigration laws and a willingness to engage in illegal activities. His guilty plea is a significant step towards holding him accountable for his actions.
As the investigation and prosecution of this case continue, it is clear that the U.S. government is committed to enforcing immigration laws and protecting national security.
