Rodney Neal Stach, a 45-year-old felon, brutally attacked his wife in their East Tulsa home in August 2025. Stach, who had eight prior felony convictions, strangled his wife and pistol-whipped her with a loaded firearm, threatening to shoot her. The victim, a tribal citizen, managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s house, where she called for help.
When Tulsa Police officers arrived, they found the victim badly injured and Stach still on the scene. The subsequent investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tulsa Police Department, uncovered a history of violent behavior by Stach, including maliciously torturing and killing a pig by stabbing it to death.
Stach was sentenced to 70 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for Assault of a Spouse by Strangling and Attempting to Strangle in Indian Country and Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Kelly.
The sentence brings some measure of justice to the victim, but it also highlights the need for support services for survivors of domestic violence. Domestic Violence Intervention Services offers a 24-hour information and crisis line at (918) 743-5763 or (918) 7-HELP-ME, as well as a text line by texting SAFE to 207-777.
