Fern Dowling, Crack Distribution Conspiracy, Maine 2013
Bangor, ME - In a move to clean up the streets of Penobscot County, the federal government has taken down another major player in the illicit crack trade. Fern Dowling, 40, of Old Town, was sentenced to 5½ years in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute cocaine base, commonly known as 'crack.'
According to court records, between January 2010 and August 2013, Dowling distributed 7.8 kilograms of crack in the area, selling half-gram bags for $50 and gram bags for $100. The proceeds of her sales were then transferred to her source of supply in the New Haven, Connecticut area, where she received cash and crack in exchange.
Unfortunately, it's not just local residents who were involved in this operation. Members of the conspiracy from New Haven included members of the Red Side Guerilla Brims, a violent street gang affiliated with the Almighty Blood Nation, a national street gang. This brazen disregard for law and order will not be tolerated.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the New Haven, Connecticut Office of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the City of New Haven Department of Police Services.
As the Grimy Times continues to expose the dark underbelly of our society, it's clear that the fight against organized crime is a long and difficult one. But with the help of law enforcement agencies like the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, we can finally bring closure to the victims of these heinous crimes.
Fern Dowling's actions have had devastating consequences for the community, and it's only right that she faces the full force of the law. We urge all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
